Strategy Lesson
Standard #7
Description: This was a group project I did with Olivia. We had to choose a literacy strategy to teach our classmates. We chose raft writing and our lesson had the class using the writing organizer to create their own stories
Reflection:
This assignment addressed multiple parts of standard 7 but ultimately covered the idea of planning for instruction in a way that is organized and works for everyone. This assignment required a large amount of planning that lined up with the common core writing standards. Aligning lessons up with the standards in a way that flows well is a huge part of standard 7. We made sure the use of RAFT writing worked with the writing standards for the grade level we were covering. Standard 7 emphasizes organization and using assessments during instruction. In the strategy lesson we did check ins and had a final assessment in the form of a written story. We also had out lesson organized in an I do, we do, you do format that worked for the content and standards. This artifact helped me grow as a teacher because I got to have experience writing up a lesson plan and actually putting it into practice in a whole group lesson. The lesson itself for raft writing also helped me add to my repertoire of strategies I can use in my future classroom when I’m having my students do writing activities.
